Followers and family attacked by guards when the battle starts
What happens
NPCs such as Aela, Lydia, an adopted Lucia or your hired bard may appear as soon as you leave Whiterun and get attacked by the guards, and no Stormcloaks spawn.
PS5-safe fix
Reload before the battle and follow the prevention steps.
Prevention
Dismiss all followers before leaving through the gates, and move your family to a home in another city before starting this quest.
Always make a hard save before trying a fix.
